living green: coastal clean-up

On the 15th October, the Townhouse Hotel & Conference Centre staff & management carried out their first beach clean-up event in the vicinity of the Milnerton lighthouse.

South Africa's coastal resources are facing considerable threat and are already severely degraded in many areas not only because of over-harvesting but also through urban disregard, pollution and littering. Plastic waste kills many marine life when they mistake it for food or for example, the plastic rings that are around pop cans can get around an animal's neck, causing it to suffocate.
