Babalwa Nqindana, 21, recently completed her F&B learnership programme at Townhouse Hotel in Cape Town, which also ran at our sister hotel, the Vineyard, this year.
The programme sees young unemployed people spending time with us and receiving work experience. Some are recruited through Harambee, a youth employment accelerator, after they have successfully completed their National Certificate in Food and Beverage Services through the International Hotel School. Babalwa, who is from Samora Machel Township in Cape Town, started her time with the hotel in June 2015 as a shy, quiet member of the F&B team. During her tenure she learnt all the intricacies of the hospitality industry – health and safety aspects, servicing guests, product knowledge and more.
Since then she has blossomed into a confident young woman who takes initiative and impressed the F&B team to such an extent that when her learnership came to an end in May 2016, they offered her a permanent position on the team. Babalwa is passionate about singing and even entered Idols before she started her learnership. One lucky (and suprised) guest was treated to a special birthday song recently. We’re so happy to have her in our team.
