Local Elsies River resident, John Nchong is making waves at the Townhouse Hotel – from a Banqueting Waitron to his current position of Night Porter, the Cameroon-born John has lived and thrived in Cape Town for four years now.
John is the youngest of six children, born and raised in Besonabang Mamfe, a town in the South West region of the Cameroon. He started his hospitality career as a waiter, before joining Townhouse Hotel, where he currently works as a Night Porter.
On checking in at night, guests will enjoy the assistance and smile of John, who will provide a charming welcome to the hotel, as well as assisting guests with carrying bags to their room. Says Hugh Petter, John’s supervisor at the Townhouse Hotel, “It is always a pleasure to work with John as he has a sunny personality and a constant willingness to perform his duties”
John devotes his leisure hours to his Transport & Logistics studies or involvement in his church. John’s says, of his philosophy to the working world, “in the short term, I want to learn everything I can about my position and the industry and, in the long term, to tie my studies in with the goal of starting my own small business that facilitates the transport of goods by sea.”
As John looks back on his journey – and the values his childhood has imparted – he can truly say he is a blessed man.
