Just around the corner from the Townhouse Hotel, lies a historic park. The Company’s Garden is a much-loved and well-used space in the Cape Town CBD. Visiting has always been one of the most popular things to do in the Mother City – and now it boasts a farmers market too!
This green lung is edged with beautifully designed historic buildings. You could easily spend an entire day exploring the sites, then pop into the Company’s Gardens Restaurant before moving on to the next iconic destination.
Tourist attractions around the gardens include the Houses of Parliament, the Iziko National Gallery, Iziko South African Museum, Planetarium, Bertram House, and Michaelis School of Fine Art, the National Library and the Centre for the Book, St Georges Cathedral, the South African Jewish Museum, and Cape Town Holocaust Centre.
On Saturdays, the Paddocks area (under the trees just up from the National Gallery) turns into the vibrant. The GCFM is a child-friendly food market, specialising in a variety of locally grown and prepared produce, as well as arts and crafts.
If you are looking for peace and quiet in the centre of our bustling city, you could simply wander the peaceful paths beneath the ancient leafy trees, watch the tame squirrels, feed the ducks, meet a Capetonian, sit on a bench and drink in the beauty before heading down the road to join us for a cup of great coffee, a cooling drink or a delicious meal at Trees Café.
