In celebration of women’s month, we’d like you to meet the amazing staff and suppliers we work with at Townhouse Hotel.
Irrepressible Ruby Abrahams has worked at the Townhouse for 40 years! Her favourite memory? “The day they released Nelson Mandela. The streets were filled with people and the Townhouse Hotel was filled with media. We hosted a lot of politicians that day.”
Ruby is our guest liaison manager and loves the interaction she has with visitors. “The Townhouse Hotel is a privately owned hotel. I know the Petousis family personally as they often visit the hotel. I also admire our General Manager, Jacqui Williams – she has the full time responsibility of being a mother and wife, as well as her position at the hotel. She does both jobs exceptionally well.”
Ruby’s advice to young women this Women’s Month is to not let go of their independence: “Even when you get married, always hold onto yourself and never lose yourself to become what someone else wants.”
Andiswa Ketwa has worked at the Townhouse Hotel since 2003. She is our much-valued reservationist and often the first person our guests talk to. Andiswa loves the team she works with and says, “The staff makes this hotel special. I laugh all the time at work – my colleagues make work fun. No wonder some of my favourite memories are of things that happened at the Townhouse Hotel.”
It is possibly this warmth and friendliness that make the Townhouse Hotel many businesswomen’s first choice for accommodation in Cape Town, says Andiswa. “And of course, the hotel is situated very close to Parliament and other business places. This makes it easy for women to get around – most of them just walk to their offices from the hotel.”
What meal would Andiswa recommend in the restaurant? “The menus change frequently based on what is in season, but if lamb chops are on the menu, order them!”
